Federal solar investment tax credit (ITC) extended

Oklahoma is among the top states in the nation for solar energy production potential (Project Sunroof Data Explorer, 2018), and more homes and businesses are making the switch to solar every year.  Today’s solar power systems are incredibly capable and affordable, and the recent extension of the Federal Solar Investment Tax Credit (ITC) means there’s never been a better time to go solar in Oklahoma.

With the extension of the FTC that was announced in December of 2020 (Pickerel, 2020), system owners have the potential to receive a 26% federal tax credit for systems that begin construction prior to December 31, 2022.  The incentive drops off sharply starting in 2023.  The increasing popularity of solar means that installer backlogs will only increase as the incentive deadline approaches, so it certainly pays to start designing your system now to ensure that you receive the largest possible tax credit.
